The Marshalltown Bobcat boys swim team, is not a Bobcat only squad. Swanson is in his first year of swimming, Barkema in his second, and Petty has swam all four years. The Bobcats finished their dual portion of the season with a record of 7-4. Notable wins include victories over Des Moines East, Grinnell, Indianola, and Fort Dodge.
Petty paces the Bobcats in the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke. He holds a season best time of 1:56.90 in the 200 and a mark of 58.32 seconds in the 100 back. Barkema owns a time of 24.20 seconds in the 50 yard freestyle and also has a season best of 54.91 seconds in the 100 freestyle. Swanson has a season best time of 29.73 seconds in the 50 yard freestyle.
The Bobcats will look to punch several tickets to the state meet when they head to districts on February 3 in Ankeny. Barkema and Petty will be a part of a couple relays that hope to advance to the state meet in Iowa city on February 10.
