Comet Boys GOLF
by BRAD BARKEMA
The 2018 golf season has finally gotten underway due to the weather canceling many of the opening meets of the year. The Comet boys golf team returned all six letterwinners from the previous year and each have contributed to a strong start of the season. All six varsity golfers are averaging scores fifty or lower which allows everyone to play loose knowing that if they have a bad round, somebody else will be right there coming in with a low score. Pacing the Comets so far this season is Lane Stanley averaging a score of 41 for every nine holes. Lane has also earned medalist honors three times on the young season. Behind Lane, is Brad Barkema who possesses a nine hole average of 46 strokes and has earned runner-up status twice this year. Keegan Rhinehart is right behind Barkema with a nine hole average of 47. Jonny Neff, Calob Keller, and Blake Mann round out the varsity lineup with averages of 48, 49, and 50 respectively. The Comet boys will compete in the NICL West Conference meet on May 7, and they will also compete in the sectional meet on May 11 in hopes of advancing to districts. Both meets will be held at Grundy Center.
